Psalms 81:1 “Sing aloud unto God our strength: make a joyful noise unto the God of Jacob.”
This Commandment to “make a joyful noise unto the God of Jacob” is often used to sooth those who don’t sing very well. It is true that we should put forth our best effort to “Sing”, even if we can’t sing very well. But, the contextual meaning is to “make a joyful noise” of Victory, joyfully declaring that our “God” gets the Victory in every battle. The people were making “a joyful noise unto God” when they “Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.” (John 12:13). The “joyful” word “Hosanna” literally means Save Now, the meaning is that our Victorious Savior has Now arrived. Their “joyful noise” proclaimed that the Messiah has come, and now Victory is assured. We should, even now, come together to “make a joyful noise”, declaring that our Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, Who is God, has “gotten him the victory”; that is, we joyfully: “sing unto the LORD a new song; for he hath done marvellous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory” (Psalms 98:1)! He has “gotten … the victory” over the grave, over death, over sin, and over all our enemies. So, let’s put forth our best effort to worshipfully come together to “Sing aloud unto God our strength: make a joyful noise unto the God of Jacob”; for, the battle is won, He’s our protecting “Good Shepherd” in life and by Him our home in Heaven is Secure!
