Psalms 81:11 “But my people would not hearken to my voice; and Israel would none of me.”
After God had so wonderfully delivered and abundantly blessed Israel, they “would not hearken to” His “voice” and “would none of” Him. That is, they would not listen to His Commandments and obey them, and they would have nothing to do with obedience to God. They chose to embrace the most immoral and evil forms of idolatry and were blindly following their own lust. We read of such behaviors and wonder how a people so magnificently blessed, could turn away from such a Gracious and Merciful God. Then, we look round about us, and we see the same thing happening in our Country. And, we remember that, historically, every time God blesses His people with such abundance and peace and comforts and power, they soon begin to slip away from the true God that has secured and blessed them. Therefore, let us “Examine” ourselves, “whether” we “be in the faith” and “prove” our “own selves” faithful to the Lord (II Corinthians 13:5) and “be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord” (sI Corinthians 15:58)!
