Colossians 1:5 “For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel; 6 Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth:”
Paul continues his prayer, giving thanks (Colossians 1:3) “For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven”. What they so wonderfully hoped for, had been explained well to them through the preaching of “the word of the truth of the gospel”. This blessed “hope” is not clouded with any doubt whatsoever, it firmly rests upon our God-given “faith” (Hebrews 12:2); for, our “faith” is the sure “evidence” and “substance” whereby we know that our Eternal Home is “laid up for” us “in heaven”. We continue to live survive through all the troubles and trials and heartbreaks and sadness and pain and disappointments etc. because we rest “In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began” (Titus 1:2). It is “an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you” (I Peter 1:4). This “eternal life”, that we “hope” for, is absolutely sure and steadfast; for, this “hope” rests exclusively in Christ Jesus our Lord; for, in Him alone “we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will” (Ephesians 1:11). This “hope” is indeed sure, for our Lord Jesus said, “that of all which he [God the Father] hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day” (John 6:39) and our “God” “cannot lie”. In this blessed “truth of the gospel”, we have peace no matter what tribulations we are presently enduring!
