Colossians 1:12  “Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:

Paul continues his prayer, “Giving thanks unto the Father”, and he details several profound reasons for “Giving thanks”.  In “Giving thanks”, he follows the model prayer that our Lord gave us, instructing us to pray “Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.” (Matthew 6:9).  The word “Father” has many uses, but in this case, it refers to the True God, Who is the Sovereign Being from which all people originate and Who created all things and Who reigns supreme over all things and over all peoples now and forever.  One of the most difficult things for our finite minds to comprehend, is that “the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost” are “three” but at the same time They “are one” (I John 5:7).  When “Philip” asked to “see the Father”, Jesus told him “he that hath seen me hath seen the Father” (John 14:9).  And, when Jesus was Baptized, the Three Persons of God revealed Himself.  God the Son was being Baptized.  God the Holy Spirit was seen as a Dove descending and “lighting upon” Jesus.  And, God the Father spoke and said, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased” (Matthew 3:16-17).  This Blessed and Holy God, Who reveals Himself in Three Persons, loves us with a love infinitely greater than any human affection.  For, He loves His people with such a “great love” (Ephesians 2:4) that He sent His Only Begotten Son to “save his people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21) by Sacrificing Himself, and He sends His Holy Spirit, the Comforter, to both Help and Comfort (Romans 8:26; John 14:16) us in a world that is often hostile and painful to us.  Like Paul, we ought to spend much time “Giving thanks unto the Father”!
