2023-10-05 “delivered us from the power of darkness”

Colossians 1:13  “Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

The Apostle Paul continues with “Giving thanks unto the Father” (Colossians 1:12) “Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness”.  The “power of darkness” is associated with “the power of Satan” (Acts 26:18) and stands in stark contrast to the Light of “the kingdom of his dear Son”.  This “power of darkness” is indeed a great “power” “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Ephesians 6:12).  The “power of darkness” comes in two basic forms; it entices us to sin by appealing to the weaknesses of our carnal nature and it seeks to frighten and discourage us through the use of overwhelming wicked powers and authorities.  We must never, ever underestimate the power of the “power of darkness”, “the power of Satan”; for, if the Lord does not rush to our aid and “deliver… us from the power of darkness”, we will be overwhelmed and then ruined.  However, when our Heavenly “Father” is delivering us, we have mighty “weapons of our warfare” to combat “the power of darkness”, and these “weapons” “are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds” (II Corinthians 10:4); and when He’s on the battlefield, He gets the victory every time no matter how dreadful the threat may be.  So, like Paul, let us take good courage and pray for our Lord’s protective deliverance and then give “thanks unto the Father” for He has indeed “delivered us from the power of darkness”!
