Hebrews 13:11 “For the bodies of those beasts, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned without the camp. 12 Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate.”
Under the Old Testament Law Service, “the bodies of those beasts, whose blood” was “brought into the sanctuary” were “burned without the camp” (Exodus 29:14; Leviticus 4:11-12; 16:27) which was a prophetic type of our Lord Jesus Christ who “suffered without the gate” to “sanctify the people with his own blood”. Our Beloved Lord “suffered without the gate” signifying that the Old Testament had been fulfilled and that He was bringing in the New Testament order of worship which includes both Christian Jews and Gentiles. Furthermore, instead of the earthly “Jerusalem” and “Israel”, we now have the “Jerusalem which is above” which “is free, which is the mother of us all” (Galatians 4:26) and “the Israel of God” (Galatians 6:16); that is, the Heavenly “Jerusalem” and “Israel”, the New Testament Church-Kingdom of Jesus Christ. The Old Testament Law Service cast “a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things,” which “can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect” (Hebrews 10:1). But, by “one offering he [our Lord Jesus Christ] hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified” (Hebrews 10:14). Therefore, we jubilantly sing, “Amazing Grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me …” (John Newton)!
