2024-02-20 “God … that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus”

Hebrews 13:20  “Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,  21  Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

It was “the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus”.  To everyone’s amazement, “God” raised the dead body of “our Lord Jesus” to life again.  The Bible uses two grand events to illustrate the Sovereign Power and Authority of our Lord Jesus Christ: the Creation and the Resurrection from the Dead.  In this case, the Apostle is using the Resurrection as evidence that our “God” has the power and authority to bless His people in His service.  Paul strongly emphasized that “Christ died for our sins” “And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day”.  After His Resurrection, “he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once”, “After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles.”, and Paul also saw Him (I Corinthians 15:3-8).  We do not worship some deceased ancestor, we worship our living “God”; our King, Priest, and Savior.  He is our loving and caring “Lord”, for He alone eternally owns us (I Corinthians 6:19) and has all power and authority over us.  He is our “Jesus”, for He alone is our eternal Salvation (Acts 4:12).  Furthermore, He is One in the Triune God (I John 5:7).  Our “Lord Jesus” is worthy of our total commitment to Him, to His Word, and to His Church.  And, He is able to thoroughly supply us with all we need to be good and faithful servants to Him!
