Psalms 147:3 “He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.”
The “LORD” (Psalms 147:2) knows when our hearts are “broken”, when some dreadful thing has happened in our lives to rob us of joy and peace, when things we once delighted in have become a dread, when we struggle to hold our head up, and when our best thoughts are overshadowed with misery. Our hearts are “broken” by many things; such as, our own weakness and sin, the deceit of a loved one, the loss of treasure, the loss of loved ones, etc. Whatever the cause, our Lord is our Great Physician; there is no tribulation that He does not have power over. He plainly declared His Great Power this way, “In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” (Joh 16:33). He spoke of His Majesty and Great Love for us and tells us that “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace.” (John 16:33). That is, “in” our Lord Jesus Christ, we can experience “peace” even in the very midst of life’s storms, tribulations, and broken hearts. It helps if we just “be still” and “stand still” while He “bindeth up” our “wounds”. He tells us to “Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalms 46:10) and to “stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD” (Exodus 14:13). To be “still” is to pause for a while and spend some quiet time “Looking” exclusively “unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith” (Hebrews 12:2). Notice that it is the Lord Himself Who “healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds”. When we are “broken in heart” and bruised and mangled by life’s tribulations, our Lord-Physician gently and kindly sooths us by binding “up” our “wounds” and applying His “balm” of Grace and Mercy (Jeremiah 8:22). He knows exactly what Spiritual Medicines to apply; for, He knows everything; “He” even “telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names” (Psalm 147:4). We are lovingly comforted and helped; for, “Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.” (Psalm 147:5)!
