Deuteronomy 6:12 “Then beware lest thou forget the LORD, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.”
After telling Israel that “the LORD” was going to bless them with great abundance in the Promised Land, Moses warns them to “beware lest thou forget the LORD”! But they did cyclically “forget the LORD” and they began to neglect worshipful service to “the LORD”, and even embraced the idols of the people that “the “LORD” had driven out of the land. Consequently, when they forgot “the LORD”, they miserably suffered until they repented and turned from their wicked ways. In our day, “the LORD” has blessed us with more abundance of good things than any other nation in the history of this world. But, at large, we have slipped away from the truth of “the LORD” and His Holy Word, and many entirely reject Him and His Word. Paul tells us that “the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears” (II Timothy 4:3); sadly, this “time” has come. We are plainly told that “evil communications corrupt good manners” (I Corinthians 15:33); that is, false doctrines lead to bad behaviors – and bad behaviors are growing like an awful plague in our Country. So, what do we do in such times? We must pray often and discipline ourselves to remain faithful in our worshipful service to our Lord, and we must look to Him for wisdom and strength to “be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord” (I Corinthians 15:58)! And remember that faithful worship includes “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” (Hebrews 10:25).
