Psalms 78:4 “We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.”
We MUST teach our children that WHEN the storms of life are raging, the God we worship has the Sovereign Power (“strength”) to help and to deliver us; for, He Commanded, “Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.” (Mark 4:39). We are to shew “the praises of the LORD, and his strength” to our children, “For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:” (Colossians 1:16)! He “didst divide the sea by” His “strength:”, He “brakest the heads of the dragons in the waters” (Psalms 74:13). Because of our Lord’s Sovereign “strength”, we can confidently shew our children this message that He has delivered to us: “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” (Isaiah 40:10). Furthermore, by His Sovereign “strength” our Lord has defeated all His enemies, and He “giveth us the victory” (I Corinthians 15:57) over sin, death, and the grave! And, His “strength” is so great that He, “hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,” (II Timothy 1:9)! And, His “strength” is so great that He perfectly, completely, and finally satisfied His “Father’s will”; He plainly declared, “And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.” (John 6:39)! Therefore, we can have peace in the midst of our storms, cheer in the midst of our distresses, joy in the midst of our sadnesses, and relief in view of our own sin when we understand that we are securely “kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time” (1 Peter 1:5)!
