Psalms 78:4 “We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.”
The “LORD” “hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end” (Ecclesiastes 3:11). The LORD’s “wonderful works” are so great that even “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.” (Psalms 19:1). His “wonderful works” are so many that the Psalmist declared, “they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered” (Psalms 40:5). Yet, we rejoice to “publish with the voice of thanksgiving, and tell of all” that we know of the LORD’s “wondrous works” (Psalm 26:7). The phrase, “that he hath done”, signifies the LORD’s completed “works”, He doesn’t have a lot of unfinished projects laying around. The Word of God records that He is the Creator, the Giver of Life, He has control of the natural elements, He is the protector of His people, He has raised the dead to life again, He has defeated great armies, He has raised up and put down human rulers, and it is the Lord Jesus Christ “Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began” (II Timothy 1:9). These things must not be hidden from the children; for, great peril lies in the path of “all the nations that forget God” (Psalm 9:17)! Knowing of our LORD’s “wonderful works” is a necessary, sustaining comfort in this tumultuous world; therefore, let us not forget that “He hath made his wonderful works to be remembered: the LORD is gracious and full of compassion.” (Psalms 111:4)!
