2024-06-26 “great is the mystery of godliness”2024-06-26

I Timothy 3:16  “And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

Every sensible human being will readily agree that “godliness” is indeed a “great … mystery”; that is, the boundless power, magnitude, and majesty of “God” far exceeds our comprehension.  In this context, “godliness” refers to the Holy Attributes, Being, and Works of “God”.  Our Lord prayed that we “might know … the only true God, and Jesus Christ” that “God … hath sent” into this world (John 17:3).  But, “now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face” (I Corinthians 13:12); that is, the things that we cannot comprehend while in this world will be opened to us when we see our Beloved Lord “face to face”.  But now the “born again” (John 3:1-8) Children of God inherently know that “God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory”.  The Psalmist proclaimed that “Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.” (Psalms 139:6)!  But, what we do know, consoles us, strengthens us, emboldens us, and mightily moves within us, leading us to perpetually strive to be “transformed by the renewing of” our “mind, that” we “may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” (Romans 12:3).
