Psalm 91:1 “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.”
The “secret place of the most High” is faith’s “place” in the heart’s mind where the “born again” trembling Children of God are blessed to meet, one on One, with the Lord God Almighty. It is that blessed “place” that our Beloved Lord Jesus Christ has opened to us by his Sacrificial Death and His Glorious Ascension into Heaven (Hebrews 4:14-15). Because He has so Graciously and Mercifully and Lovingly opened this “secret place” to us; we are exhorted: “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16). It is in this Blessed “place” where our Loving Lord receives us as “kings and priests” (Revelation 1:6; 5:10); that is, He has granted us the privileged power and authority to personally, and even secretly, enter this Holy Place. As the “LORD” met the High Priests in the Most Holy Place (Exodus 25:22) in Old Testament times, He meets us there, seated upon His Holy Mercy Seat. No other human being ever hast to know that we have been there; but, afterwards the glorious glow of that meeting shows in our demeanor and behavior that we “been with Jesus” (Acts 4:13). It is there that we can freely unburden ourselves before the Lord. It is there that we weep out our grief and pain to Him. It is there that we can speak to Him of the most painful things. It is there where He lovingly reaches down and wipes away our tears and, oh so tenderly, embraces us with His Holy Spirit, the Great Comforter. There was a broken sinner woman who entered this “secret place”; she “stood at his [Our Lord’s] feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment” (Luke 7:38). She was there because in her heart’s ears she had heard Him say to her, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28). And, there she indeed found rest. If you have ever been there, then you will jubilantly declare to the Lord, “Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word.” (Psalms 119:114).
