Psalm 91:1 “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.”
“Faith” is the “substance” and “evidence” that the Spirit places within “born again” children of God (John 3:1-8; Hebrews 11:1;12:2), whereby we are certain that the Lord is God; that is, we “know” and “consider” in our hearts “that the LORD he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else” (Deuteronomy 4:39) and that “it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture” (Psalms 100:3). Then “trust”, is the absolute certainty that our Lord “is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us” (Ephesians 3:20), that “he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.” (Hebrews 7:25). Those who have this blessed “faith” and “trust” are thereby fully equipped for obedient service to God. With this “faith” and “trust”, no obstacle seems too large, no trouble seems too severe, and no enemy seems too great to overcome. Hezekiah “trusted in the LORD God of Israel; so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor any that were before him” (II Kings 18:5). The Psalmist proclaimed, “What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.” (Psalms 56:3). The Apostle Paul declared it this way, “For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.” (I Timothy 4:10) and “For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.” (II Timothy 1:12). Thus, we jubilantly proclaim, “In God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me.” (Psalm 56:11)!
