Isaiah 53:10 “Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.”
As in this case, the word “seed” is a very old analogy that refers to a person’s offspring; that is, their children and their children’s children, etc. Much like, when we plant a grain of corn, it sprouts, grows up, and then a great many other seeds come from the one we planted. [In olden times, farmers would save their best seed to be planted the next year!] The seeds that come from the seed that was planted have many of the same characteristics as the original seed that was planted. The Apostle put it this way, “For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.” (Hebrews 2:10). The Psalmist explained that His “seed” would “serve him”: “A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation.” (Psalms 22:30). Our Lord plainly explains that He is the “seed” that was planted, and that His planting “bringeth forth much fruit”: “Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.” (John 12:24). Luke’s account of the Day of Pentecost clearly shows the propagation of the first fruits of our Lord’s planting. At first there were one hundred and twenty faithful seed (Acts 1:15), then on the Day of Pentecost “about three thousand souls … were added” (Acts 2:41), and then “about five thousand” more (Acts 4:4), and then they began to rapidly multiply (Acts 5:14). Our Lord’s “seed” loves and worships Him, strives with all diligence to emulate His lovingkindness, His faithfulness to God, His humility, His truthfulness, His forgiveness, etc. And, the more His “seed” emulates Him, the more “seed” they produce, even down to this very day; for, when other Born Again Children of God see the same attributes that the Lord has planted in their hearts, they are magnetically drawn to the Flock of God!
