2024-11-04 “For in this mountain shall the hand of the LORD rest”

Isaiah 25:10  “For in this mountain shall the hand of the LORD rest, and Moab shall be trodden down under him, even as straw is trodden down for the dunghill.  11  And he shall spread forth his hands in the midst of them, as he that swimmeth spreadeth forth his hands to swim: and he shall bring down their pride together with the spoils of their hands.  12  And the fortress of the high fort of thy walls shall he bring down, lay low, and bring to the ground, even to the dust.

In these verses, we find much comfort for the Kingdom of God, the Church of Jesus Christ, and the Children of God in every generation; most especially, in the times in which the evil adversaries are laying siege upon and attacking the Lord’s Church and People.  We live in just such a time; for some outright reject the Lord and His Word and do everything in their power to destroy His Church and people.  The attack was deceptively subtle at first, it began with just a few (seemingly) minor changes to the Word of God, but the changes gradually became more and more radical; until finally the corrupted Word of God has become so humanized that it can barely be recognized as the Word of God.  Consequently, many have become so confused that discouragement sits upon our land like a thick and ominous storm cloud that is ready to wreak ruin upon us.  Many have hopelessly rejected religion all together; for, in their experience they find no comfort and no real joy; all they have is carnal excitement.  However, even in the very midst of this devastating deterioration, we have every reason to hope, “For in this mountain shall the hand of the LORD rest”; that is, “the mountain of the LORD’S house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.  3  And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.” (Isaiah 2:2).  Even, in just such times, we are strongly exhorted to “Be of good courage, and let us play the men for our people, and for the cities of our God: and the LORD do that which seemeth him good.” (II Samuel 10:12) and jubilantly “sing unto the LORD a new song; for he hath done marvellous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory” (Psalms 98:1)!  Remember, when Elijah became discouraged, the Lord told him that, “I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal” (Romans 11:4).  In our day there is, even now, a great multitude that is yet faithful to the Lord, they may not be loud and in the spotlight, but they are there!
