2024-11-20 “good doctrine”

I Timothy 4:6  “If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.

A “good minister of Jesus Christ” is one who is “nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine”; for, he diligently studies “to shew [himself] approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (II Timothy 2:15) and then he labors to “put the brethren in remembrance of these things”; that is, “the words of faith” which is “good doctrine”.  Paul warns us, telling us that “the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times [we are living in them now] some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils” (I Timothy 4:1).  And, we are plainly told that ‘bad doctrine leads to bad behaviors’ (I Corinthians 15:33).  Thus, we are Commanded to counter the “doctrines of devils” by prayerfully learning and preaching and teaching the “good doctrine”; which is also referred to as “sound doctrine” (I Timothy 1:10; Titus 2:1), “wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ” (I Timothy 6:3), “the faithful word” (Titus 1:9), and “the truth” (I Timothy 3:15).  Let us pray that our gracious Lord will raise up “goodministersof Jesus Christ” who will faithfully commit themselves to seek grace from our Lord to learn and plainly preach the “good doctrine” of Jesus Christ!
