II Timothy 1:11 “Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles. 12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.”
The Apostle Paul “believed” and was “persuaded that” the Lord “is able to keep that which” he had “committed unto him against that day”. In this context, to commit is to fully trust that the Lord will never change His mind; thus, he and all of those “chosen” by God “before the foundation of the world” (Ephesians 1:4) are forever, securely kept from “everlasting destruction” (II Thessalonians 1:9) and are entirely preserved in Jesus Christ (Jude 1:1) fit for their Eternal Home in Heaven with the Lord. He also said it this way, “For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39). Thus, like Peter, we can joyfully face the many troubles and trials of this present life, always looking forward to “that day” in which our Beloved Lord will take all His Children “To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, 5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:” (I Peter 1:4-6)! Oh, “What a day that will be” (Jim Hill)!
