Psalms 147:1 “Praise ye the LORD: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely.”
The Psalmist proclaims that “it is good to sing praises unto our God”, and then, in twenty verses, explains why “it is good”. Like most of the Old Testament Word, the Lord sent His Word both in application for their day as well as in prophecy for the New Testament era, including our day. He refers to blessings granted to “Jerusalem” and “Israel” (Psalms 147:2) as they were in Old Testament times; as well as the “Jerusalem which is above” (Galatians 4:26) and “the Israel of God”(Galatians 6:16); that is, to the exalted “Jerusalem” and “Isreal”; meaning the Lord’s Kingdom and Church that we are blessed to rejoice in, even in our day! It “is good to sing praises unto our God” for His “mercies” and “compassions” “are new every morning” (Lamentations 3:22-23). It “is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant” unto our Lord and unto all the Children of God who come together to Worship. It “is good to sing praises unto our God; for … praise is comely”; that is, “praise is” beautiful to behold and to experience. To “sing praises unto our God” is to feel the Comforting touch of the Holy Spirit upon all our senses. To “sing praises unto our God” is to “rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory” (I Peter 1:8). It is no wonder that king David proclaimed, “I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.” (Psalms 122:1)!
