Psalms 147:4 “He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names. 5 Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite. 6 The LORD lifteth up the meek: he casteth the wicked down to the ground.”
We are but mere humans, with human faults and weaknesses; but, our “Lord”, Whom we worship and serve, is not limited as we are. He is so infinitely wise that, not only does He name “the stars”, but He also remembers the name of every one of them. And, He has such “great power” that He ultimately accomplishes His will in everything and there is no power nor authority that can prevent Him. This is the “LORD” that we are speaking to when we kneel in prayer. And, in His lovingkindness, He brings His “infinite” knowledge, wisdom, and power to bear upon the issues that we lay before Him. Nebuchadnezzar learned the hard way, but when he finally understood Who he was dealing with, he declared, “And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?” (Daniel 4:35). So, when we read that “The LORD lifteth up the meek: he casteth the wicked down to the ground.”, we should strive for meekness in all our endeavors and our minds should be filled with joy and peace even in the very midst of the most awful storms of this present life. Furthermore, we don’t need to be vengeful, for the Lord explained, “Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.” (Romans 12:19). Our banner cry should be, “I will call on the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.” (II Samuel 22:4)!
