Mark 10:44 “And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all.”
James and John came to the Lord and asked for preferential positions above their brethren (Mark 10:37). The Lord kindly, but firmly rebuked them, telling them that “whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all”; that is, you cannot hold an exalted position in the Kingdom of God without first being “servant of all” who are in the Kingdom. The Lord then uses Himself as an example: “For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister” (Mark 10:454). The Lord’s service reached such a high level that He even willingly gave “his life a ransom for many”. With our Lord as our example, let us kindly look over each other’s failings and seek to serve each other with help and encouragement, holding each other in higher esteem than ourselves.
