Matthew 14:29 “And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. 31 And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?”
Like many of the Lord’s lessons to us, this one is absolutely extraordinary so that we will get the message fully. We need to be often reminded that the Lord our merciful God is Sovereign over all things, including our troubles, and that He is Omnipotent and that He loves us with a “great love” (Ephesians 2:4). Peter’s faith was working well when he “was come down out of the ship” and “he walked on the water, to go to Jesus”, for he was focused upon “Jesus”. But, it is also typical of us humans to take our eyes off the objective (“Jesus”) and to allow the fear of our troubles and trials and heartbreaks to distract us, that is when we begin to “sink” into devastating despair and misery!
