Psalms 73:25 “Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.”
David had become discouraged because he “saw the prosperity of the wicked” (Psalms 73:3). It seemed that the “wicked” could do anything and say anything they wanted with impunity (Psalms 73:4-12); they had all the good things, and they laughed at those who were faithful to the Lord and suffered for His cause. They would even scoff and “say, How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the most High” (Psalms 73:11). David had been very discouraged at the “prosperity of the wicked” until he “went into the sanctuary” (Church in our day) “of God; then” he “understood” “their end” (Psalms 73:17). There he learned that God always gets the victory over the “wicked” and then he declared of God, “thou castedst them down into destruction” (Psalms 73:18) and “Whom have I in heaven but thee?”; that is, only my God can deliver us from the “wicked”! Being reminded and encouraged in the Lord, David declared, “it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works” (Psalm 73:28). It is easy to get discouraged when we see “the prosperity of the wicked”; but, let us follow David’s example, let’s go to our Lord’s Church, join the Church, and be active in Church; for when we do, we are reminded and encouraged that our God will defeat the “wicked” and will cast “them down into destruction”!
