Jude 1:1 “Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called: 2 Mercy unto you, and peace, and love, be multiplied.”
This blessed “love” is translated from the same word as “charity” which means “love” that is put into action, demonstrated by deeds. Here, Jude is praying that God’s “love” to the Church will “be multiplied”; that is, that the faithful Children of God would wonderfully feel and experience God’s “great love” (Ephesians 2:4) as they come together to worship and in their daily walk. When our hearts are filled with this “great love”, it is evident in the warm and caring fellowship, in the humble sincerity of the prayers, in the uplifting joy of the singing, and the glorious power of the Preached Word. This “love” is wonderfully felt as all hearts and minds are singularly focused upon The Lord God Almighty and the Sure Salvation that we have in Jesus Christ the Son of God. This “love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us” (Romans 5:5), nothing “shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:39), and “the love of Christ constraineth us” to joyfully worship and serve Him (II Corinthians 5:14). Paul prayed for the Church, that they would “know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God” (Ephesians 3:19). Our Lord expressed the glorious magnitude of His “love” this way, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13). F.M. Lehman wrote, “The love of God is greater far than tongue or pen can ever tell …!
