Psalms 95:1 “O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation. 2 Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.”
The exhortation to, “Let us come before his presence” refers to those blessed times in which the Lord mightily fills us with the joy of His Holy Presence, and it especially points to the ingathering of the Children of God to Worship Him in His Church. By the presence of the Holy Spirit, He meets us there and reveals His presence by the uplifting of the Spirit, in which, for a little season, our minds are lovingly focused upon our Lord and His abundant grace and mercy, which comforts and invigorates us in our daily walk in this present life. Paul expresses this uplifting as “hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us” (Romans 5:5). Peter explains it as; Jesus Christ, “Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:” (I Peter 1:8). We know that we have been “before his presence” when we don’t want the preacher to stop preaching, when we don’t want to leave, when we return home rejoicing in what we have just experienced and heard, when our daily troubles just don’t seem so severe, and when we are anxious to tell our friends and family how wonderfully the Lord has blessed us, and when we anxiously look forward to the next ingathering!
