Psalms 95:3 “For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods. 4 In his hand are the deep places of the earth: the strength of the hills is his also. 5 The sea is his, and he made it: and his hands formed the dry land.”
The Psalmist explains why we must “come before his presence with thanksgiving”; that is, “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” (Hebrews 10:25). He explains that “the LORD is a great God”; that is, Jehovah, Who exists of Himself, He has no beginning and no ending, He created and owns all that is, and He has absolute power and authority over all things and peoples. He is “a great God”, Who reigns supreme “above all gods”; for, all other gods are contrived, imagined, promoted, and made by men. He is “a great King above all gods”; that is, He alone has total and final Executive, Legislative, and Judicial Authority and Power over all things and peoples, even over the most highly esteemed gods and kings of men. Our God has Power and Authority over all; for, “The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.” (Proverbs 21:1)! Let us prayerfully and joyfully resolve that, “I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.” (Psalms 18:3)!
