2025-05-26 “fight for your brethren”

Nehemiah 4:14  “And I looked, and rose up, and said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, Be not ye afraid of them: remember the Lord, which is great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses.

Today is Memorial Day 2025 in the United States of America, a day in which we pause for a little while to remember those who went to war on our behalf and did not come home.  We enjoy great liberty today because they fought to obtain it and to secure it.  Although their lives were taken in battle, their sacrifice has maintained our freedom.  The Lord our Merciful God has blessed us with freedom and prosperity that is uncommon in the history of the world, and evil hates us because of it.  But God moves in the hearts of our young men and women to fight for our freedom.  King David proclaimed, “Blessed be the LORD my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight:” (Psalms 155:1); that is, He uncommonly equips and strengthens those who “fight” on our behalf.  We must never forget their bravery and faithfulness to stand up and fight for their Country, even if it means their lives.  Let us pause today and solemnly remember them and pray for their family and friends, for they heeded Jeremiah’s counsel, “Be not ye afraid of them: remember the Lord, which is great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses”!
