Psalms 94:16 “Who will rise up for me against the evildoers? or who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity?”
There are periods in history in which it seemed certain that “the evildoers” were going to dominate, persecute, and completely push aside the Church and those who strive to be faithful to the Lord and His Holy Word. And, it may appear so in our present day! When “Elias” (Elijah) thought that he was the only one left that was faithful to the Lord, the Lord told him “I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal. 5 Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.” (Romans 11:2-5; I Kings 19:18)! And, the Lord showed John that “Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.” (Revelation 3:4). It is certainly true for us that “Unless the LORD had been my help, my soul had almost dwelt in silence.” (Psalm 94:17). In the Word of God, in History, and in our own experience we find that “When I said, My foot slippeth; thy mercy, O LORD, held me up.” (Psalm 94:18). So, in our present day, when discouragement and despair moves over us like a dark and ominous cloud and we ask, “who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity”, let us remember that “the LORD is my defence; and my God is the rock of my refuge” (Psalm 94:22)! It may seem that the faithful Children of God are going to be completely beaten down and pushed aside by “the evildoers” and “the workers of iniquity”; but, we can be certain that the same “LORD” that “reserved to” Himself “seven thousand”, that kept “a remnant according to the election of grace”, and that has kept “a few names” that remained faithful to Him; is on scene with us today, and He is holding us up against “the evildoers”!
