Psalm 57:5 “Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens; let thy glory be above all the earth.”
These are the words of a man that is in great distress, for he is urgently seeking “refuge” in the Lord “until” the “calamities” of his life are “overpast” (Psalm 57:1). His adversaries had taken the most prominent stage in life, it seemed that nothing could curb their hunger for power as they worked to put down all that was good and righteous. So, the Psalmist prayed, “Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens; let thy glory be above all the earth.”! That is, “O God” reveal thyself to your Crying Children to comfort us. And, “O God” also reveal thyself to the wicked to strike fear in their hearts, for all the evil that they are doing. When “God” exalts Himself, He reveals Himself through some great deed that causes all men to tremble at His presence; for, he is “above the heavens”; that is, He reigns Sovereign over all men and all things. When He lets His “glory be” revealed “above all the earth”, He reveals by demonstration His Righteous Magnificence through some great act of His Almighty Power. When the Almighty God exalts Himself and lets His “glory” be seen “above the heavens” and “above all the earth”; wicked men uncontrollably tremble with fear and flee away; while the faithful Children of God tremble with joyous fear as they find a blessed refuge in their Lord and assemble to worship and praise their Almighty God. Let us earnestly pray, “Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens; let thy glory be above all the earth.”!
