Psalms 2:1 “The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, 3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.”
The ultimate quest of the ungodly “kings” and “rulers” in this world is to “break” the “bands” “and cast away” the “cords” that “the LORD” and “his anointed” (Christ) uses to bind His Elect People to Himself. The ungodly “kings” and “rulers” mistakenly think that it is material blessings, physical things and wealth, that bind us to our “LORD” and “his anointed” (Christ). The devil tried to “break” the “bands” and “cast away” the “cords” that bound Job to “the LORD” by taking the Lord’s material blessings away from him. The devil told “the LORD”, “put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face” (Job 1:11), and when that didn’t work; he told “the LORD”, “put forth thine hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face” (Job 2:5), and that didn’t work either. Nebuchadnezzar’s wicked men tried a carnally attractive, alternative form of worship to “break” the “bands” “and cast away” the “cords” that bound Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego” to “the LORD”. They set up a magnificent statue and brought in all kinds of musical instruments and had all the political leaders attend the pep-rally substitute for worship; but, “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego” chose the “fiery furnace” rather than compromise their Faithful Allegiance to “the LORD” and “his anointed” (Christ) (Daniel 1-3). The wicked even thought that they could break these blessed “bands” and “cords” by killing the LORD’s “anointed” (Christ); they tried at His Birth, all through His life, and on the Cross. Even on the Cross, they could not take His life, He gave it; then He took it up again. What the devil and his wicked minions do not and cannot understand, is that the “bands” and “cords” that bind the LORD’s people to Him and to His Christ is GOD GIVEN FAITH (Hebrews 12:2). This blessed faith is placed within each Child of God at the very instant they are given Spiritual Birth by the Holy Spirit (John 3:1-8). This Sovereign Binding is described as “the fruit of the Spirit”, which “is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance” (Galatians 5:22). The Lord told Jeremiah, “I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.” (Jeremiah 31:3). The word “drawn” does not mean invite, entice, attract, or plead; it has the connotation of dragging; that is, the Lord our Almighty God reaches down and gets His Children by their hearts and Sovereignly takes them to Himself, causing them to love Him and makes them willing to forsake all, and to endure great hardships to follow Him. Thus, even today, there are those whose binding will not be broken. Paul put it this way, “Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.” (Romans 11:5); that is, a “remnant” that will not compromise their “faith”!
