2021-01-07 Reason To Hope!

Psalms 33:6  “By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.

It may be true that more difficult times are ahead of us; but, it is a waste of time and of no help to wring our hands and cry “woe is me”.  Instead, let us encourage ourselves this way, “Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.” (Psalms 42:5).  Just pause for a moment and consider Who our God is!  He is indeed God, and by His Sovereign “word” (Command) “were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth”.  Therefore, “Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.  9  For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.” (Psalms 33:8).  It could be true that we are entering a period of Divine Judgement for the great sins that we as a Nation have committed; such as, turning away from God and godliness, sodomy, destroying unborn babies, greed, etc.  But, let us never forget that “The LORD bringeth the counsel of the heathen to nought: he maketh the devices of the people of none effect.” (Psalms 33:10) while “The counsel of the LORD standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.” (Psalms 33:11).  That is, all the carnal wisdom and plans of the wicked will eventually be overthrown by “The counsel of the LORD”!  On the other hand, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.” (Psalms 33:12).  The wicked “heathen” cannot possibly stand against the Sovereign God Who Commanded the heavens and the earth into existence.  The Lord often gives them plenty of latitude to vividly prove that they are entirely corrupt people, but there always comes a day in which the Lord delivers His people out of the hand of the wicked.  The wicked may appear to have great and overwhelming power, but their strength and carnal glory is nothing to the God Who created the universe.  We have reason to rejoice, even right now; for, “Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy;  19  To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine.” (Psalms 33:18-19).  Therefore, we have every reason to hope, for “Our soul waiteth for the LORD: he is our help and our shield.  21  For our heart shall rejoice in him, because we have trusted in his holy name.” (Psalms 33:20-21)!  So, let us worshipfully declare, “Let thy mercy, O LORD, be upon us, according as we hope in thee.” (Psalms 33:22)!
