2021-02-03 “Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him”

Psalm 37:7  “Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

When the wicked “prospereth in his way” and “bringeth wicked devices to pass”, he brings disturbance, trouble, discouragement, confusion, etc. upon those around him.  The wicked certainly “prospereth in his way” for a while; that is, he does well for a while doing things his wicked “way” and not the “way” of the Lord.  Generally, the wicked has enough carnal intelligence to dream up and plan and make his “wicked devices” come “to pass”.  His “devices” are indeed “wicked” for, with his “devices”, he brings a lot of bad and miserable things upon the faithful Children of God.  While the “wicked” is hatching up his “wicked” devices, the Children of God should “Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him”, “For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.” (Psalm 37:9).  To “Rest in the LORD” is to not waste our time moaning and complaining about what the “wicked” is doing; but just keep our focus upon the Lord, His Word, and His Church.  To “wait patiently for him” is to simply continue our faithful service to our Lord knowing that “For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be” (Psalm 37:10); “But” when the Lord reveals His mighty power, “the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace” (Psalm 37:11)!
