2021-02-25 “stablish you in every good … work”

II Thessalonians 2:16  “Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace,  17  Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.

To be stablished “in every good … work” is to be made strong, resilient, effective, and reliable in the work of obedience to our Lord.  A “good … work” has an objective; that is, to lovingly obey the Lord in every aspect of our lives.  It is a “good … work” to faithfully worshipfully pray unto our God, to read and study His Holy Word, and to attend and be a part of His Church.  It is a “good … work” to “work out your own salvation with fear and trembling” (Philippians 2:12); that is, anxiously and lovingly serve our Lord because He “hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began” (II Timothy 1:9).  It is a “good … work” to “deny” ourselves “and take up” our “cross daily, and follow” the Lord (Luke 9:23); that is, be ready to endure any disadvantage or tribulation that comes our way as we seek to “follow” our Lord.  It is a “good … work” “To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep” ourselves “unspotted from the world” (James 1:27); that is, “visit” them to learn their needs and to help them and encourage them in the Word of God; all the while, avoiding and not taking part in the ungodly and immoral things of this present world.  It is a “good … work” to “Not” forsake “the assembling of ourselves together” (Hebrews 10:25); that is, attend our Lord’s Church services and take an active part in them.  It is a “good … work” to daily pray, “What shall I render unto the LORD for all his benefits toward me?” (Psalms 116:12)!
