Hebrews 6:20 “Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.”.
Our Great King and High Priest, is Jesus Christ the Son of God. Only two in the Word of God held both offices of “King” and “priest”, “Melchisedec” and Jesus Christ. This passage is quoted from the prophecy given in Psalm 110:4 “The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.”. It is clearly explained to us that “Melchisedec” was a prophetic type of Jesus Christ, Who is indeed the “king of Salem” (“King of peace”), the “priest of the most high God”, “King of righteousness,” and He is “Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.” (Hebrews 7:1-3). That is, concerning his priesthood, He was not a descendent of Levi or Aaron; thus, He was not a Jewish priest; He is the “priest of the most high God” and He “abideth a priest continually”! Not like the Old Testament priests who served and then died. Our Lord Jesus Christ is “continually” the High Priest of all His People, both Jew and Gentile! Our King and High Priest reigns forever! We must never forget, that as both King and Priest our Lord is, even right now, Sovereignly Reigning over all things, both natural and spiritual. So, as we face life’s many tribulations, we must pause for a moment and remember Who is really in charge (Command) of all things both natural and spiritual; it is not some man in some high position, some politician, some legislative body, some great organization, or some institution – it is Jesus Christ our King and Priest. It is to him and him only, that we will bow and worshipfully obey and joyfully serve!
