2021-05-05 “Take heed, brethren”

Hebrews 3:12  “Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.

This exhortation-warning to “Take heed, brethren” is directed to the Children of God in every generation, for the threat against True Christianity will remain as long as the “antichrist” and his “many antichrists” (I John 2:18) remain.  It is not possible for a born-again Child of God to be so deceived that they will cease to be Children of God and lose their Eternal Salvation (John 6:39).  However, even the Children of God, when they are not on guard, are subject to deception, deceit, lying wonders, false doctrines, false prophets, and other distractions and lies of those who seek to draw them away from God and godliness.  To “Take heed” is to be always vigilant, ever looking for the threat, knowing that it is there somewhere.  It’s somewhat like a southern boy walking through the swamp, he is constantly scanning the ground and brush ahead of him, knowing that venomous snakes are everywhere, but he wants to see them before he gets too close.  So, considering our present society, let us “Take heed”, and “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.” (Matthew 7:15) for “many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many” (Matthew 24:11).  Ministers are warned to be ever vigilant always “avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called” (I Timothy 6:20)!  Now is the time for us to carefully “Take heed”!
