Hebrews 3:13 “But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.”
The phrase, “while it is called To day”, tells us that this blessed exhortation is vital to the Children of God’s welfare in every generation. Our great adversary actively pursues the Children of God in every generation to ruin them with “the deceitfulness of sin”. The Lord told Peter that “Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat” (Luke 22:31); that is, strip you of all joy and peace and from pleasant service to the Lord. And, Peter warns us to “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:” (I Peter 5:8); that is, “the devil” has nothing but vicious hatred for the good things of our Lord; if it is good, he flies upon it to destroy it, in particular the Children of God themselves! The “devil” is relentless; therefore, we are exhorted to be ever vigilant and to stand together and to “exhort one another daily”; that is, we must lovingly “exhort one another” against the perils of “sin” “To day”!
