Psalm 36:1 “The transgression of the wicked saith within my heart, that there is no fear of God before his eyes.”
The Lord told those standing before Him, “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning” (John 8:44)! The Psalmist calls them “the wicked” and “evildoers” (Psalm 37:1). Ever since Cain slew his brother Able, there have been “haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things” (Romans 1:30). Peter tells us that “these, as natural brute beasts” are “made to be taken and destroyed” they “speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption” (II Peter 2:12). We should not be surprised that in our generation also there are “wicked” “evildoers”. These “wicked” “evildoers” have no love for God, no respect of God, and “no fear of God”. These “wicked” “evildoers” have no compassion or respect for the Lord’s Church or His people; they do have vicious vitriol toward any who love the Lord and seek to follow Him. They hate Biblical morality and integrity. These “wicked” “evildoers” would utterly destroy the Lord’s Church and His people, “If it had not been the LORD who was on our side” (Psalms 124:1,2). Thus, we are commanded to “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” (Ephesians 6:11) and “take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand” (Ephesians 6:13)! We can indeed “stand against the wiles of the devil” and “withstand in the evil day” because our Lord “is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords” (I Timothy 6:15) and He will “strengthen” His faithful Children (Philippians 4:13) so that they can “stand” and “withstand”!
