2021-05-31 – Remembering Those Who Gave Their Lives For Us

John 13:35  “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

Let us never forget that the freedoms we enjoy in our Country were obtained and secured by those who were willing to and did give their lives for the sake of their fellow countrymen.  I have stood in awe among the sea of graves in American Cemeteries in foreign Countries where our young gave everything they had in cruel and horrible battle.  They even gave their lives to keep wicked men from taking away our freedoms.  Just a few hours before our Lord gave His life for His People, He told His Apostles, “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” (John 13:35).  And, the greatest possible display of “love”, is that our young men and women would willingly imperil themselves and even give their lives for those that they love (John 15:13).  Nehemiah told his defenders to “remember the Lord, which is great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses” (Nehemiah 4:14).  The military commander, Joab, told his men, “Be of good courage, and let us play the men for our people, and for the cities of our God: and the LORD do that which seemeth him good.” (II Samuel 10:12).  So today, Memorial Day 2021, let us pause and thankfully remember those who willingly answered the call and did “fight for” us.  They stood bold and strong as “the Lord” taught their “hands to war, and” their “fingers to fight” (Psalms 144:1).  So today, as we enjoy a three-day weekend, eat the best of all food, enjoy time with our family and friends, and rest from our busy life; please pause and reflect honor upon those who died to secure these freedoms for us!
