II Thessalonians 2:16 “Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, 17 Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.”
The world is not friendly towards our Lord’s “good word and work”; therefore, we need “Comfort” from the Lord and His strength to “stablish” us “in every good word and work”. The “good word” is “the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation” (Ephesians 1:13); essentially, it is “the word” concerning Jesus Christ and His Church-Kingdom. This blessed “good word” was spoken and recorded by “holy men of God” who “spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost” (II Peter 1:21). Said another way, it is the “word which God sent” (Acts 10:36). This “word” is about our Lord Jesus Christ “Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, 10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:” (II Timothy 1:9). The “every good … work” are the things we are Commanded to do in the service of our Lord; such as, “walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God” (Colossians 1:10), “walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind” (Ephesians 4:17), “put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts” (Ephesians 4:22), “put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness” (Ephesians 4:24), “have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them” (Ephesians 5:11), show outwardly our love for the Lord and each other (Colossians 3:1-16), “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” (Hebrews 10:25), and remember that it is our solemn duty to “Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.” (Ecclesiastes 12:13). We are to learn and adhere ourselves to the truth of Who Jesus Christ is and what He has done for us and to behave ourselves with high morality, integrity, brotherly love, and faithfulness to the Word of God and the Church of Jesus Christ. In an age of great temptations and oppositions let us pray that our Lord will mercifully “Comfort” our “hearts, and stablish” us “in every good word and work”!
