II Thessalonians 3:1 “Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you: 2 And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith.”
The Apostle Paul petitioned for prayer “that the word of the Lord may … be glorified”; that is, held in the highest esteem, respect, and honor. To glorify the “word” is to reverence “the word of the Lord”; for, it is the Reverend (Psalms 111:9) God’s Authoritative Communication to His “Elect” (I Peter 1:2), “born again” (John 3:1-8) Children. Even now, we ought to earnestly pray “that the word of the Lord may … be glorified”; that is, be recognized and respected as the true and authoritative “word of the Lord”, esteemed as the sole source Document for all worship, held as the exclusive content of preaching, respected as the overriding authority and guide for all human laws, referenced in all levels of discourse, and known as the necessary instruction for civil behavior. It ought to be so highly revered that all men would fearfully loath the very thought of altering it in any way, spend much time reading it and lovingly discussing it, seeking every possible opportunity to hear it preached and taught, and enthusiastically taught to children by their parents. In our day, the blessed and holy “word of the Lord” is more and more summarily dismissed, rejected, disdained, and altered to fit carnal desires. Let us take heed and pray!
