2021-08-03 “But know that the LORD hath” [Taken From A Previous Note]

Psalms 4:3  “But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the LORD will hear when I call unto him.

The Psalmist exhorts us to “know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for himself”.  “him that is godly” can be rightly said to refer to King David, of whom the Lord declared, “a man after mine own heart” (Acts 13:22); to Jesus Christ, of Whom the Father said, “Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious” (I Peter 2:6); and to that “great multitude, which no man could number” (Revelation 7:9) who are “now justified by his blood” (Romans 5:9).  In a practical sense it can also refer to those Children of God who “live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world” (Titus 2:12).  While in a Spiritual-Legal sense, “There is none righteous, no, not one” (Romans 3:10), there is no greater joy in this life than to feel within our heart that God the Father “hath made” His Son Jesus Christ “to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him” (II Corinthians 5:21), “that the LORD hath set” us “apart” “for himself”, that our Father is the Eternal Holy God (Luke 11:2), that the Son of God gave His precious life to “save” us “from” our “sins” (Matthew 1:21), that the Holy Spirit is our Comforter (John 14:16), and that beyond this life “we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens” (II Corinthians 5:1).
