Psalm 9:10 “And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.”
Virtually the whole world has heard the “name” God, Lord, and Jesus Christ. But, in this context, to “know” the Lord’s “name” is to lovingly and worshipfully “know” it, and to believingly “know” what His “name” means. While in prayer our Lord declared, “O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me.” (John 17:25). The “world” may be aware of His “name”, but the “world” of unbelievers certainly does not love and worship His blessed “name”. Many are aware of His “name”; but they hate it, despise it, and they do everything within their power to destroy His “name”. The only way a person can lovingly, worshipfully, and believingly “know” the Lord’s “name” is to have been “born again” (John 3:1-8). The Lord clearly explained that Spiritual Birth is the exclusive act of the Holy Spirit; furthermore, it is not a choice that a person makes, it’s a choice made by God and is executed at a time pleasing to God. If the whole “world” lovingly, worshipfully, and believingly knew the Lord, then all people would “put their trust in” Him and this “world” would be a blissful paradise. Notice the grammar, “they that know thy name will put their trust in thee”; not maybe, might, should, or could; but “will put their trust in” the Lord. This “trust” is an inseparable blessing of our God-given “faith” (Hebrews 12:2). Paul explained it this way, “For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.” (II Timothy 1:12). Like Paul, we can suffer and endure great trials in this present life because we “know whom” we believe in and are “persuaded that he is able to keep that which” we “have committed unto him against that day”.
