II Corinthians 2:15 “For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish: 16 To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things? 17 For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.”
Paul asks, “And who is sufficient for these things?”; that is, “who” has “sufficient” knowledge, understanding, strength, and commitment to believe these blessed truths and to stand fast in them and to readily declare them. For, even in our day, there are “many, which corrupt the word of God”; that is, they alter it, add to it, delete portions of it, misapply it, and dismiss portions of it. It appears that they willfully “corrupt the word of God” because they think that they know better than “God” and they want to feel a sense of power and control that belongs only to “God”. While “many” openly mishandle the Word of God, let us embrace it with utmost “sincerity”; that is, strive to learn it, understand it, and declare it just as the Lord has given it to us. We must remember that it is “of God”; that is, He gave it to us to worshipfully learn and obey. Furthermore, we must never forget that it is “in the sight of God” that “speak we in Christ”; that is, “God” knows and takes note of how we handle His Word. The point is, “God” is looking, and we must remember that the Word of God is about His Beloved Son and His Glory and not about the perceived glory of man.
