II Corinthians 4:3 “But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.”
I remember that the Brethren from my childhood, would sometimes say, “I do not have any light on that subject”; meaning, that they simply had not been given spiritual understanding of a subject and they thought it wise to not speak on it until they were given the “light” of understanding. In this case, the devil, by his deceptive “wiles” (Ephesians 6:11) and “devices” (II Corinthians 2:11), seeks to blind “the minds of” the people so that they cannot see, understand, and rejoice in “the glorious gospel of Christ”. By blinding the people, the devil has opportunity to lead them away into his ruinous ways! This “glorious gospel” declares how our Lord Jesus Christ came into this world to “save his people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21), that “all which” the Father “hath given” Him, He “should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day” (John 6:39), that He graciously and mercifully sacrificed Himself to justify His people with His shed blood (Romans 5:9), and that through His blessed sacrifice He entirely secured our Eternal Inheritance (Ephesians 1:11). This “glorious gospel” declares the glory “of Christ” and not of men!
