Psalms 118:8 “It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man. 9 It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes.”
It is certainly true that only those with God-given “faith” (Hebrews 12:2; John 3:1-8) can “trust in the LORD”; but, the adversaries of “faith” are actively working to discourage and deny the truth of God that secures our “trust” in Him. There are two basic points of Biblical Doctrine that perfectly illustrate the Sovereign Omnipotence of our God; the Doctrine of Creation and the Resurrection of the dead. The point is, if such a God can Create and sustain everything that is and can raise the dead to life, surely, He can deliver me through my life’s troubles and even save me to Eternal Heaven as He has Promised. Jeremiah explains Creation this way, “Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee:” (Jeremiah 32:17). And Paul explains raising the dead this way, “But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:” (II Corinthians 1:9). The adversaries of “faith” are viciously scoffing at the Doctrines of Creation and Resurrection and would have us “put confidence in man” and in (“princes”) our national leaders. Well, turn on the evening news and see what kind of mess trust in man gets us into. After all these thousands of years, it is still “better to trust in the LORD” and to obey Him because He did indeed speak this world into existence and has raised the dead to life and on the last day, he will raise all mankind to life and take His Elect to the Eternal Home He has prepared for them! What a grand and glorious day that will be!
