2022-05-12 “Let not your heart be troubled”

John 14:1  “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.

There are times when it is necessary for us to just simply STOP and review our faith; that is, consider what we are given to knowingly “believe” about our God.  In times of Old, in a period of great distress, the Lord exhorted his people to “Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.” (Psalms 46:10).  There are certain things that “born again” (John 3:1-8) Children of God instinctively know about God that are of great comfort and encouragement in times of trouble and distress.  But, when the pressures are great, and fear begins to mount, and confusion takes hold of us we tend to forget these blessed things that we know and “believe” about our God.  Even John the Baptist, in his time of great distress, needed to be reminded (Matthew 11:4).  So, the Lord, understanding this about His Disciples, tenderly reminded them, “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.”.  Yes, He was indeed going away, but that was not the end; for, great and wonderful things were ahead of them; for, they were serving the Son of God, the great King of kings, Who is One in the Triune God (I John 5:7).  They knew that, for it had been Peter himself that had received the revelation from God the Father that Jesus is “the Christ, the Son of the living God” (Matthew 16:16).  So, in times of trouble and distress, let us likewise remember to just pause for a moment and consider Who it is that is watching over us!
