2022-05-25 “another Comforter”

John 14:15  “If ye love me, keep my commandments16  And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17  Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

Here, our Lord gives us a little glimpse of the inner workings of the Godhead.  Upon His departure, the Lord knowing that His Apostles were but men, having man’s weaknesses and failings, He determined and promised to “give” them “another Comforter”.  He is called “Comforter” because of the effect that His Holy presence has upon those that He comes to; for, when He reveals His Holy Presence, a sense of peace and security and contentment and joy so mightily fills our mind and heart that troubles and fears are rendered ineffective against us.  In addition to being One in the Triune Godhead (I John 4:7), our Lord tells us several things about our blessed and Holy “Comforter”: He abides with us “for ever”, He is “the Spirit of truth”, “the world cannot receive” Him, the world “seeth him not”, the world does not know “him”, but we “know him”, and He “dwelleth with” us, and He is “in” us.  Therefore, He is absolutely unique to the Born Again (John 3:1-8) Children of God, others generally think we are foolish when we speak of such a being, but those who experience the Holy “Comforter”, simply smile with knowing contentment at the scoffers.  Essentially, no matter how difficult the duty before us, how severe the pain we endure, how deep the emotional hurt we suffer, how fearsome our adversaries appear, or lonely and cast away we might feel; we are never alone, never without help, never without strength, and never without love; for, the Holy “Comforter” “dwelleth with” us and is “in” us much like He was with the Apostles!
