I Thessalonians 1:3 “Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father;”
The “work of faith” is showing outwardly that we love the Lord our God and that we surely believe in Him and believe His Holy Word. The “work of faith” is almost always first apparent in a person’s hospitality and humility and gentleness and kindness, while there is also a strong sense of boldness. The workers “of faith” are unafraid of adversaries and unreserved in the face of opposition and persecution. The “work of faith” worships God “in spirit and in truth” (John 4:23-24), loves and remains true to the “doctrine of Christ” (II John 1:9), faithfully goes to and participates in the Lord’s Church (Hebrews 10:25), reads and studies the Word of God (Acts 17:11), is always ready to joyfully explain what they believe (I Peter 3:15), openly shows love to the Church and to all who come to worship (John 13:35), strives to have no “no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them” (Ephesians 5:11), rushes to help the poor and needy (Matthew 25:40), and is willing to take up their cross of suffering to obey and follow Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior (Mark 8:34)! While legalism is rejected, Biblical “truth” is a necessity to the “work of faith”. It is a great blessing to have “faith”; but, “faith without works is dead” (James 2:20). Therefore, let us prayerfully strive to “shew” our “faith by” our “works” (James 2:18) in every aspect of our lives!
