2022-09-29 Humility: Christ Jesus Is Our Best Example

Philippians 2:5  “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:  6  Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

Our Lord Himself is the best example of being humble and kind and putting the welfare of others before that of ourselves.  We are Commanded to “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus”; that is, the same “mind” that Christ had, which was to be humble and to serve others first.  While it is certainly true that, even while He was on this earth, He was “equal with God”; yet, He “made himself of no reputation” (Philippians 2:7), He “took upon him the form of a servant” (Philippians 2:7), He “humbled himself” (Philippians 2:8), and He “became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross” (Philippians 2:8)!  Paul then, based upon our Lord’s perfect example, goes on to strongly exhort us to similarly humble ourselves and to serve one another: “Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.” (Philippians 2:12)!  To “work out your own salvation with fear and trembling” is to know what our Lord has done for us and to commit ourselves to His Service, following His example, to the very best of our ability!  All “born again” (John 3:1-8) Children of God can do this; “For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.” (Philippians 2:13); that is, He gives us both the strong desire and the sufficient ability to do it!
