2022-10-07 Striving To Do God’s “good pleasure”

Philippians 2:12  “Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.  13  For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

The ultimate purpose and duty of “born again” (John 3:1-8) Children of God is to live and serve our God, “to do” “his good pleasure”!  Our Lord expressed it with utmost clarity when He said, “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” (John 14:15).  Our Lord set the perfect example for us; for, He perfectly carried out His Father “will”; thus, God the Father declared His pleasure in His Son before all mankind: “And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” (Matthew 3:17)!  When faithful preachers preach, they are “allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so” they “speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts” (I Thessalonians 2:4).  It is the solemn duty of us all “to walk and to please God”, and the more we strive to “please God”, we are blessed to “abound more and more” (I Thessalonians 4:1).  In our loving service to our God, we are “to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased” (Hebrews 13:16).  We want “to do”, and we can “do” these things because our gracious and merciful God “worketh in” us “both to will and to do of his good pleasure”!  Summarily, it is pleasing to our God when we confine ourselves to His Holy Word; to joyfully read it, teach it, preach it, and live it without embellishment or limitation.  To “walk and to please God” is to live our lives with the Lord’s Church and His Holy Word being the center focus and principal commitment of our lives, going to and being a part of His Church, obeying His Commandments for Brotherly love, obeying His Commandments for honesty and integrity, obeying His Commandments for moral behavior, obeying His Commandments for sharing our blessings with and helping others, and always conducting ourselves with kindness and grace.  Our loving God lets us know that He is pleased with our service to Him; for, He blesses us to “abound more and more” in service to Him.
